Rap Goddess, born Maureen James, is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter, performer, nurse practitioner, and entrepreneur. Born in the United States and raised in Nigeria, she hails from a distinguished Benue family whose emphasis on discipline and excellence helped shape her artistic and professional journey. She studied English and linguistics at the University of Port Harcourt, a background that sharpened her command of language and strengthened her distinctive lyrical style.
Her music career began in 2009 as a gospel singer before she transitioned to rap in 2011. Since then, Rap Goddess has built a decade-long reputation for sharp wordplay, commanding delivery, and a bold presence in Nigeria’s hip-hop scene. Her 2024 album Big Motion stands as one of the year’s most notable releases, featuring songs rooted in storytelling, social commentary, and personal expression. She is also known for standout tracks such as “Goddess of Rap,” “AK47,” and other fan favourites.
As a businesswoman, she is the founder and CEO of RG Records, a label that hosts the annual Easter Rap Fiesta—an influential platform spotlighting rap talents across the country. Beyond entertainment, she serves as a nurse practitioner and runs the God’s Given Foundation, a charity supporting terminally ill children.
Her impact has earned her multiple recognitions, including Best Female Rapper at the 2023 Signatory Fashion Awards.
